About

I am educated as political economist with a Master of Science degree from the University of Groningen (1977), The Netherlands;  and a Master of Arts degree of the School of Development Studies. University of East Anglia (1977), UK.  After two years in South Korea for the UNDP, I started to work for the Overseas Projects Division of the Netherlands Economic Institute in 1981. 32 years later I retired from its successor- Ecorys as chairman of the board and started my own company.  My experience as a research based consultant extends over 35 years in 50 different countries in Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia. Over the decades I worked on port infrastructure, rural development, water infrastructure and economic cooperation policies in different roles: project formulation, project monitoring, evaluation; and as teamleader of multidisciplinary engineering teams responsible for design, build, finance, operate and maintain projects.  I have worked on environment and water projects since 1984, Since 2015 a significant part of my work as been flood prevention & mitigation in Bangladesh. At the same time I work as a strategy consultant for private clients; and as a Cost Benefit Analysis and PPP trainer. In 2017 I worked in the Netherlands, Bangladesh, Romania and Georgia. I live with my wife on the island of Goeree Overflakkee  and we have two grown up children.
